These guys conserve

Does that mean they don’t use plastic grocery bags?

Missoula Montana Conservation Voters endorsed* these candidates: Councilman Dave Strohmaier, Ward 1; Candidate Roy Houseman, Ward 2; Councilman Bob Jaffe, Ward 3; Candidate Mike O’Herron, Ward 5; and Councilwoman Marilyn Marler, Ward 6. And Mayor John Engen.

Reusable bags take energy to produce, too, you know.

Conservation Voters have a shindig with these candidates 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. this Thursday in the Missoula Children’s Theater Meeting Room. It’s a potluck. Bring your goodies in a reused cardboard box?

Chicken a la conservation

Want to know how your Missoula City Council members rank on conservation values? Their votes on chickens in city limits mattered. The Montana Conservation Voters just released a scorecard* on council members. It’s based on 10 issues, and city hens are one. (Two councilors earned perfect marks — 100 percent for Ward 1 Councilmen Dave Strohmaier and Jason Wiener.) Here’s the news release.*

Feel free to post links to recipes for rooster stew. I’m hearing some of those fuzzy yellow chicks from Quality Supply have grown up and started crowing. I just got off the phone with hen keeper Misty Gaubatz for another story, and she said this about one set of roosters she had: “They live in our freezer. We took them to a butcher, and they’re very delicious.”
